May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye

"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
- Weird Al Yankovich
Once upon a time there was a boy. His name was Anakin Skywalker. He lived in slavery with his mother Shmi on the desert planet of Tatooine, owned by Watto, a Toydarian junk dealer and human trafficker. Early on Anakin showed signs of being truly remarkable, with his gift for mechanics and robotics--he built his own protocol droid by the name of C-3P0--and unparalleled skill as a pilot.
The latter, it turns out, was not just talent. When Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn visited Tatooine with his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, they discovered the Force was unusually strong with the boy.
Terrifyingly so, to be frank. Yoda had concerns.
However, despite those concerns and at Qui-Gon's final request, Obi-Wan took on Anakin as his student. And, for the most part, all seemed well (if remarkably reckless)--until Anakin visited Tatooine for the first time in years to find his mother kidnapped and killed by Tusken raiders. His fear of losing those he loved mixed with his anger and grief and he lost control, slaughtering the entire camp--men, women, children alike. He was horrified after, not just by the possibility of what could happen if he lost control but by the stark, bloody reality that he already had.
He decided he would strive to prevent death.
Now a Jedi Knight in his own right, and with the Clone Wars begun after the First Battle of Geonosis, Anakin is one of the leaders of the Republic's forces on the front lines.
He is also, against all the rules of the Jedi, secretly married to Senator Padme Amidala of Naboo.
He loves her more than life, more than anything, more than a little possessively and obsessively. He's loved her since he was nine and she was fourteen. And despite the already-demonstrated consequences of what happens when he gets carried away by emotion, he thinks there is nothing wrong with being swept away by love and this clandestine relationship.
Qui-Gon and Yoda both believe--or fear--that Anakin may be the prophesied Chosen One who will restore balance to the Force across the galaxy.
There are obviously no failure modes in it all.
Anakin Skywalker is from the Star Wars franchise, and is the property of name of George Lucas and as of recently Disney. He appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in milliways_bar, from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
